The government says it has provided a reasonable solution for the demands made by teacher and principal unions, considering the current climate.

Speaking during the weekly Cabinet media briefing in Colombo, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister Ramesh Pathirana said the government cannot make additional financial commitments at this juncture.

The Minister said they have already announced the solutions for their demands. He said teachers and principals will receive between 17 to 26 percent pay hike although payments will be made under several stages.

Minister Ramesh Pathirana said unions have demanded the payments be made at once, but the government has promised to issue them under several stages.

The Minister said the solutions given by the government are reasonable and therefore requested teachers to resume online education activities.
