Trade Unions say although they had never demanded an allowance from authorities, the allowance of Rs.5,000 which the government decided to grant at its discretion has not yet been added to their salary.
Speaking during a media briefing today, the Chief Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Stalin said it raises serious concerns on how to keep faith in the decisions taken by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Stalin said many Cabinet Papers have been presented throughout the past. He said their struggle has prolonged for two months, while the Cabinet Paper was issued on the 30th of July, the unions were briefed only two days ago.
He added they have been notified that the final decision will be reached after a discussion with the Minister of Finance.
Stalin said it is evident the process followed by the government pertaining to the serious issue is flawed.
He said the government has claimed that the issue has been resolved by the Cabinet Sub-Committee.
Stalin questioned how this can be accepted when the gazette notification has not yet been issued.
He said Minister Ramesh Pathirana claimed the allowance will be given in September and October since the issue has not been resolved thus far.
