Parliamentarian Eran Wickremeratne claims that his faction is prepared to take over the government if an agreement can be reached to prune the powers of the Executive President and conduct elections in the near future.
Speaking to media in Colombo, MP Wickremeratne said they work as a party and not based on personal agendas.
He said they are not surprised by receiving invitations to take up posts in the new government but noted that the opposition will only work based on an agenda that benefit of the country.
MP Wickremeratne stressed that his faction also informed former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa of their willingness to take over the governance of the country but under several conditions.
He said a government cannot move forward while disregarding human rights and by suppressing media.
The Parliamentarian claimed if the present administration is willing to enact the 21st Amendment to the Constitution and also fulfil the demand of the protesters, then they will support the initiatives as a party.
He noted that that however they cannot be lured through perks and posts.
