The Department of Irrigation says water levels of reservoirs across the island have increased up to 72 percent of capacity recently.
Speaking to media, Director of Water Management at the Department of Irrigation, Engineer D Abeysiriwardena said showers have been reported from across the country.
Abeysiriwardena said due to rainfall of 100mm reported from the Anuradhapura district, four spill gates of the Rajanganaya Reservoir have been opened releasing 3,000 cubic feet per second of water to the Kala Oya.
The Director said the Kandy Lake in Anuradhapura, the Nachchaduwa and Mahavilachchiya Tanks and the Yan Oya have reached capacity.
Abeysiriwardena said water distribution in all main irrigation zones for the commencement of Yala season has begun.
