Minister of Irrigation Chamal Rajapaksa says they expect to provide water required for agriculture during the forthcoming season without any issues.
Speaking to media in Kandy today, Minister Rajapaksa said cultivation and farming activities will be given priority instead of distributing water for electricity generation if the water levels in reservoirs decrease due to natural causes in future.
The Minister said they are responsible for managing the water supply adding they consider all aspects when supplying water for cultivation.
He said water will not be supplied to Hydro Power Generation Plants if water levels decrease due to a drought as the agriculture sector needs to be protected.
Minister Chamal Rajapaksa claimed they consider recommendations of the Department of Meteorology adding they do not make arbitrary decisions.
He said water will not be hoarded and will be supplied as and when necessary.
