The Colombo High Court today acquitted former Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Hemasiri Fernando from all charges filed against him over failure to prevent the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
The order was issued unanimously by a three-member bench comprising of Namal Balalle, Aditya Patabendige and Mohamed Izzadeen.
Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando was acquitted from the case filed against him by the Attorney General under 855 indictments without calling evidence from the defendants.
The case was filed against former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando on charges of criminal negligence through failure to take measures to prevent the bombings despite having received intelligence information.
