The Police says a drop in the same vehicle obtaining fuel from several filling stations in a single day has been witnessed across the island.
The vehicles are being monitored through a mobile application introduced by the Sri Lanka Police.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the app is used at 1,420 filling stations, and monitors vehicles pumping fuel at multiple filling stations. He said 360 such vehicles were observed yesterday.
SSP Thalduwa said the data generated through the app is shared with the Police Headquarters, while a total of 5,221 such vehicles have been reported.
Meanwhile, 1,700 litres of diesel that was illegally stored was seized in the Southern Province yesterday.
