The All Ceylon Joint Economic Centres says farmers are incurring massive losses due to the reduction in prices of vegetables.
Chairman of the Union Aruna Shantha Hettiarachchi said the vegetable farmers are struggling to cope up with the price reduction since the production cost is relatively high at present with the increase in fertiliser prices.
He said they have to buy a bag of fertiliser for Rs. 9,900, a bag of urea for Rs. 22,500 while the labour cost has also increased.
Aruna Shantha Hettiarachchi said however the prices of vegetables have reduced considerably during the past few days.
He said the prices of leaks, cabbage, carrot and beetroot are also reducing and it has a major impact on the lives of farmers.
