Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa today revealed of an attempt to distribute the USD 1 billion obtained from India recently amongst members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna in order to be used in election campaigning.
The MP called for the government to reveal to the public the manner in which the funds will be put to use.
MP Premadasa speaking in Parliament today claimed the money had been used in 14,000 Police areas under the ‘home shop’ programme and was being distributed amongst SLPP supporters in the form of Rs.2,000 coupons.
MP Premadasa also charged that attempts are underway to amend the Local Authorities Election system by the SLPP for their political gains.
