Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake says the country’s tourism sector must be uplifted in order to boost the economy.
Speaking at a media briefing today MP Attanayake said numerous steps can be taken in order to uplift the tourism industry.
MP Attanayake said there were setbacks in the industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic adding however the current measures taken to develop the industry are poor.
The Parliamentarian said steps taken by the government to bring down tourists, ensure their safety and to send a message that the country has reopened are futile.
He said the PCR laboratory set up at the Bandaranaike International Airport is not functional either.
