The United National Party is scheduled to take to the streets today to coincide with International Women’s Day commemorations.
The women’s wing of the UNP, United Lak Vanitha Association, has organized the protest demanding the government to protect the economy and the rights of women.
Chairperson of the Lak Vanitha Association Shanthini Kongahage said the main street protest will be held at the Parliament Roundabout at 1pm while demonstrations will also be held at district level across the country.
Shanthini Kongahage said all women suffering from the current situation in the country can join the struggle irrespective of party affiliations.
Events are being organized following discussions held with UNP Leader and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
