The United National Party will commemorate its 75th anniversary by holding a virtual summit.
The UNP which was at the forefront in winning independence from British rule and the party which introduced major educational and economic reforms and mega infrastructure projects such as Mahaweli and other irrigation and power generation projects will turn 75 on Monday, the 6th of September.
The UNP in a statement said considering the prevailing coronavirus situation in the country, it will conduct its celebrations using online platforms.
Leader of the UNP former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is due to address party activists and the general public on Sunday.
The UNP Leader’s address and other anniversary events will be broadcast live on YouTube, Facebook and on zoom from 5pm on Sunday.
The UNP said former Prime Minister Wickremesinghe will deliver the party’s program to rebuild the country.
Several other events have also been organized to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the UNP.
