Leader of the United National Party Parliamentarian Ranil Wickremesinghe raised concerns over copies of the Yugadanavi Power Plant deal with an American firm not being tabled in Parliament yet.
Speaking in Parliament under Parliament Privileges, former Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said the 43rd line of the Constitution specifies that Ministers will be held responsible for agreements preventing them from tabling information in Parliament.
In reply, Leader of House Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said the Former Prime Minister’s questions were answered by the Minister of Power on two previous occasions.
Chief Opposition Whip MP Lakshman Kiriella taking the floor said the government is bound by the Constitution to table data requested by a Member of Parliament.
He revealed of a non-disclosure clause in the agreement which was against the law.
MP Kiriella stressed the government must be transparent and table all agreements with international bodies in Parliament.
