The Ministry of Education has announced that state universities have been given permission to take independent decisions and conduct online lectures owing to the prevailing issues in the country.
Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Secretary to the Ministry of Education MN Ranasinghe said universities are allowed to take decisions that can be implemented practically, considering the hostel and transport issues faced by students at present.
He said all decisions should comply with regulations of the University Grants Commission.
The Secretary noted that universities have conducted online lectures previously, especially during the COVID-19 crisis, and therefore the measure can be implemented in the next two weeks to cover lessons.
