Trade unions predict that the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery will to have shut down once again this evening.
Trade unionist Ananda Palitha said Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera continues to make false statements.
He said although Letters of Credit have been opened, a shipment of fuel is yet to leave India.
He claimed the Minister is lying to the public putting countless lives at immediate risk.
Palitha added the Minister informed that a diesel shipment will arrive in the country on the 24th adding the statement was false.
The trade unionist said although Minister Wijesekera promised a shipment of crude oil, it has not been delivered adding the refinery at Sapugaskanda will suspend operations this evening.
He noted that the fuel crisis will only worsen adding that a massive shortage of kerosene oil persists in the country.
Palitha further noted that orders have not been placed to secure fuel for aircrafts.
He said the country only has 1,500MT of petrol stocks at present.
Palitha ridiculed the app and website created for the distribution of fuel and charged that the Minister was accepting fuel orders from friends at higher prices.
