The Ceylon Teachers’ Union requests the government to pay the sum proposed by the Cabinet Subcommittee as recommended by the ‘Subodhini Report’ before the 2022 Budget, as a measure to address salary anomalies.
Speaking at a protest opposite the Ministry of Education, Chief Secretary of the Union Joseph Stalin said all university professionals will also join teachers in their struggle to ensure their demands.
He added teachers unions will join hands with trade unions of other sectors on the 9th of this month to protest over issues pertaining to unresolved salary anomalies.
Stalin claimed they will garner the support of other unions to ensure the country’s leaders pay the overdue sums in one payment, as recommended by the ‘Subodhini Report’.
He said the money would not be going to waste, as it will support the livelihoods of teachers.
