Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the amount of remittances sent through official channels has seen an increase in recent weeks.
Issuing a special statement, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said however a majority of Sri Lankans overseas are still sending funds to the country through undiyal and other informal methods.
The Prime Minister attributed the development to the depreciation of the Rupee.
Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe said he is expecting the situation to improve and working on attracting more investments in addition to remittances.
The Prime Minister said with the strengthening of the Rupee, from next year he is expecting Sri Lankans to send their remittances through official channels.
