The Ceylon Teachers’ Union says it is unclear why all state sector workers are being summoned to work at a time when COVID-19 is prevalent in society.
Speaking to NewsRadio Chief Secretary of the Union Joseph Stalin said schools are due to reopen today while all state sector workers were also summoned to work.
He noted expectant women and state sector workers with young children were earlier allowed to work from home, adding however the relevant concessions were taken away under the new directives.
He said however the COVID-19 situation in the country is unclear at present.
Stalin claimed the decision to summon all state sector workers to duty was reached without a clear understanding of the COVID-19 situation in the country.
He said it is concerning that such a decision was reached although health officials have not said if the COVID-19 risk is prevalent in society.
