Leader of the Britain’s Liberal Democrats Ed Davey has requested the UK government to work with its international partners to issue a warrant for the arrest of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Speaking in the House of Commons yesterday, Ed Davey said the horrible situation in Sri Lanka has been brought about by the corruption of the Rajapaksa government, tax cuts, skyrocketing defence expenditure and draconian police powers.
He therefore called on the UK government for an economic and political package to support the people of Sri Lanka.
The Lib Dem leader added, the UK government should work with the International Monetary Fund and other partners to grant an economic package in addition to a political package.
Leader of the Britain’s Liberal Democrats Ed Davey is also of the view that the package should include provision to protect the human rights of everyone in the country, including Tamil and Muslim minorities.
