Two vendors in Pettah who were arrested over engaging in a protest in violation of quarantine laws have been released on bail.
The order was issued by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today.
Court ordered the two to be released on two surety bail of Rs.50,000 each.
A tense situation was reported opposite the Fort Railway Station yesterday during a protest staged by the United National Association of Self-Employed Traders.
The protest was staged in opposition to liquor stores being opened at a time when all small scale shops are ordered to close amidst the quarantine curfew.
The protesters charged that government allies were granted approval to open liquor stores when small traders were unable to engage in business.
During the protest the President of the Association Pradeep Charles and another individual were arrested.
