Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarian Samanpriya Herath was allowed to vote before his turn following the consent of Members of Parliament at today’s vote to appoint a President.
Secretary General Dhammika Dasanayake informed the House that MP Herath was sick and was required to return to hospital.
Accordingly, with the consent of the House, MP Herath was allowed to vote ahead of his turn.
He was seen assisted by Parliament staff who were supporting a bottle of saline.
Meanwhile, SLPP MP D Weerasekera who was also ill cast his vote at today’s election.
He was seen being supported by two Parliament staff members.
Voting is currently underway in Parliament to elect a succeeding President.
Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarian Dullas Alahapperuma and National People’s Power leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake are in the race to become the eighth Executive President of Sri Lanka.
Nominations for the Presidency were accepted yesterday.
Parliament convened at 10am under the auspices of Speaker of House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
