Two Police teams have been appointed to probe an incident where an unknown group had assaulted four students of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Kelaniya, last evening.
The two teams will function under the supervision of the Senior DIG of the Western Province. Four students of the Faculty of Medicine sustained injuries last evening in an attack by an unknown group.
Meanwhile, Minister of Public Security Sarath Weerasekara has said he has informed the Inspector General of Police to conduct an impartial investigation over the incident.
Minister Sarath Weerasekara said an investigation will also be conducted over the claim that the group that attacked the student used a vehicle that belongs to the state.
Police said three students are receiving treatment at the Ragama Teaching Hospital while another student has been admitted to the Negombo District General Hospital.
The students were identified as fourth-year students of the Ragama Medical Faculty. Police said one suspect has been arrested in connection with the assault.
