Two persons have died in an accident reported early this morning along the Colombo Outer Circular Expressway, between the Kaduwela and Kadawatha exits.
Police said the fatal crash was reported adjacent to the 16th mile post.
Police said a lorry travelling along the expressway had stopped to change a tyre, when another lorry rammed into the first lorry.
Police added the driver of the second lorry had died after he was thrown out of the vehicle, and fell on to the road.
The owner of the lorry who was travelling on the passenger seat had gotten stuck in the vehicle and succumbed to burns, after the lorry caught fire.
Police said the driver of the first lorry and his assistant were arrested over the incident.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa informed the public to refrain from carrying out repair activities on vehicles, in case of an emergency along the expressway.
SSP Thalduwa said instead the public must call the 1969 emergency hotline, to obtain assistance.
He said repair activities can only be carried out after the expressway emergency hotline service secures the area.
SSP Nihal Thalduwa said stern legal action will be taken against motorists who carry out repair activities on vehicles, along the expressway, without obtaining assistance from the emergency service.
