Two Indian nationals have been arrested with over a kilogram of gold in their possession during a search operation carried out by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Bandaranaike International Airport.
The gold was found during a search carried out after suspicions arose when one suspect was found spending a long time inside a toilet at the airport.
He was found in possession of three gold nuggets weighing 430g each. The Indian was due to board a flight to Chennai this morning.
Further investigations revealed the suspect had received the gold from another Indian who had arrived in Sri Lanka on a flight from Dubai this morning.
The 28 and 43 year old suspects and the seized gold were handed over to the Sri Lanka Customs for further investigations.
