Parliamentarian Bandula Gunawardana says they have taken two important decisions to resolve the problems in Sri Lanka’s Balance of Payment, foreign exchange, depletion of reserves, repayment of loans and other long term economic issues that were ignored.
Speaking in Parliament today the MP said the government plans to join hands with international financial bodies such as the International Monetary Fund which Sri Lanka is a member, in order to obtain technical assistance to resolve the economic crisis.
MP Gunawardana said the second decision was to appoint a committee consisting of two Cabinet Ministers, the Central Bank Governor and the Secretary to the Finance Ministry.
The Minister said the committee will be tasked with choosing an appropriate company which has the technical knowledge and experience to restructure debt.
MP Gunawardana said the Committee will call for offers from international organizations and finalize one entity for the job.
He also mentioned that a team will be named to fly to the USA and meet IMF officials to begin talks on plans for economic recovery.
