Two employees of the Ridiyagama Safari Park in Ambalantota who were arrested on charges of assaulting a veterinarian at the park have been released on bail.
The Hambantota Magistrate’s Court ordered the duo to be released on a Rs.300,000 surety bail each.
Police said park employees had clashed with Director General of the Department of National Zoological Gardens Shermila Rajapaksha within the park premises on the 23rd of March.
A dispute had also arisen between the veterinarian and two safari drivers.
The veterinarian had lodged a complaint with the Police stating the two safari drivers assaulted him while the drivers lodged a complaint stating the doctor assaulted them.
The veterinarian was admitted to the Hambantota Hospital while a safari driver was admitted to the Sooriyawewa Hospital for treatment.
The two safari drivers were arrested thereafter. The case will be taken up once again on the 20th of October.
The Ambalantota Police is conducting further investigations.
