Minister of Transport Pavithra Wanniarachchi says steps will be taken to digitize transport services through modern technology.
The Minister said plans are in place to provide an efficient and comfortable public transport service to the public from 2022.
Minister Wanniarachchi expressed her views at a discussion held with Ministry officials today regarding plans for the transport sector for the year 2022.
The Minister said steps will be taken to provide GPS technology to 2,000 private buses as a move towards digitization of transport services.
The project is expected to cost Rs.200 million.
The Transport Ministry said the use of GPS technology will enable the public to obtain a detailed record of bus schedules and the number of passengers on board through a mobile application.
Meanwhile, Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi said the Ministry also hopes to introduce an electronic ticket system in the year 2022.
