The Government Medical Officers’ Association says concerns surrounding the transfer of specialist doctors is a threat to the health service.
Member of the Media Committee of the GMOA Dr. Hansamal Weerasuriya said various concerns have arisen as transfers are not being carried out in a stringent manner.
He added some areas lack specialist doctors.
He attributed one reason to acting specialist doctors being directed to places where they’re required, while relevant hospitals haven’t released specialists who should have been transferred.
Dr. Weerasuriya claimed directors of some hospitals are therefore disregarding orders issued by the Health Secretary.
