The Sri Lanka Station Masters’ Union warns that railway operations will cease in the near future.
President of the Union Sumedha Somaratne speaking at a media briefing today attributed this statement to the shortage of equipment to repair trains.
Somarathne said authorities have cited the inability to bring down the necessary goods for repairs and renovations amidst the present crisis.
He also noted that railway stations are running out of train tickets as tickets are selling out fast and in high volumes due to the lack of transport methods due to the fuel shortage.
Somarathne said the Railway Department will have to issue leaves from trees as tickets to commuters in future.
