Sri Lanka Railways says several inter-city express trains, which were suspended following a spike in COVID-19 cases, will be added to the service today.
Accordingly, 301 train journeys including night mails will be added to the service today.
Speaking to NewsRadio, General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways Dhammika Jayasundara said all office trains will also be in operation from today.
He said following the lifting of inter-provincial travel restrictions, they operated several long-distance trains.
Dhammika Jayasundara noted several long-distance and other train journeys will also be added to the service today.
He said the number of passengers using trains has increased steadily in the past few days and therefore additional trains have been deployed in a bid to reduce congestion.
The General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways urged the public not to use trains for non-essential activities and said passengers must follow health guidelines when using trains at all times.
