The Sri Lanka Station Masters Association has informed the Railways General Manager in writing that train fares will not be amended from midnight today.
The letter states that commuters have not been informed prior of the hike, while practical pricing at railway stations, and related duties require more than a day to be completed.
The Ministry of Transport issued a Gazette Notification at midnight informing of train fare revisions.
According, to the Gazette Notification the minimum train fare will be increased from Rs.10 to Rs.20.
All train fares and transportation fess will be amended.
The minimum fare of the second class will be Rs.50 while the minimum fare of the first class will be Rs.100
