The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Union says it has reached a decision to engage in trade union action today based on several long standing unresolved demands of station masters and over the addition of dilapidated carriages to the service endangering the lives of passengers.
Speaking to media, the Secretary of the Union, Kasun Chamara said there could be some delay in trains as railway employees are withdrawing from telecommunication activities today.
Chamara said they will withdraw from duties at the Train Control Centre in Maradana.
He said all telecommunication activities pertaining to Railways including conveying official orders, operating special trains, informing of signal failures and accidents are done through the Train Control Centre in Maradana.
Chamara said passengers might encounter inconveniences as there will be no communications between trains and the Department of Railways.
