The Department of Meteorology says due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, the prevailing showery condition will continue.
The Met Department predicts heavy showers above 100 mm at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, Northern, North-central and Uva provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today.
It said fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
The Met Department added that due to the northward relative motion of the sun, it will directly be overhead in Periyamurippu, Ralapanawa, Wagollakada and Nilaveli at about 12:11pm.
