The Ceylon Electricity Board has announced today’s power cut schedule.
Accordingly, areas A to L and P to W will experience a five-hour cut today.
The CEB announced that the said areas will experience three-hours-and-30-minute power disruptions between 10am and 5pm while one-hour-and-30-minute power cuts between 6pm and 9pm.
Meanwhile, the CC1 area will have power disruptions lasting for four hours between 6am and 10am today.
Yesterday, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka denied approval to the CEB to impose over seven-hour power cuts.
The PUCSL informed the CEB to limit power couts to less than five hours, since several power plants are running at full capacity at present.
The PUCSL said through the 24-hour operation of the Kelanitissa Power Plant, addition of the remaining 33 MW of the Sojitz Power Plant, which is currently not operational at maximum capacity, and the use of the West Coast Power Plant, which is currently operating at less than 20 MW, at maximum capacity, the power cut duration can be reduced.
It added the commissioning of the Matugama, Thulhiriya and Kolonnawa power plants to add 20 MW of electricity to the national grid and the transfer of fuel from the Asia Power Plant, which is inactive to the Sapugaskanda A and B power plants of the Ceylon Electricity Board will also help reduce power cut durations.
