Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera says the usual quantities of 5,000MT of petrol and 3,500MT of diesel will be released to filling stations from today as per usual.
The Minister speaking in Parliament yesterday said the distribution of fuel stocks to filling stations was limited during the past few days with only 3,200MT of diesel and 2,800MT of petrol released daily. L
ong queues have been witnessed forming outside filling stations over the past two days. T
he Minister noted, the decision was reached as a shipment of fuel ordered under the Indian credit facility, is due to reach Sri Lanka on the 16th of June.
Minister Wijesekera said the government however took measures to place orders for two more shipments that are due to arrive tomorrow and on the 10th of June.
The Energy Minister added the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has allocated funds for this purpose.
