Police say three individuals died yesterday by drowning in separate incidents.
Four individuals who were bathing in Sri Palabaddala in the Kalu River were swept away by the tide.
One individual was rescued, two individuals, 22 and 40 years of age, succumbed while a 10-year-old remains missing with search operations having commenced.
The individuals are residents of Korana.
Meanwhile, a 16-year-old individual among a group of four persons bathing in the Makaldeniya River in Koslanda drowned.
He was rescued by area residents and was admitted to hospital where he passed away.
Furthermore, a 54-year-old is reported missing after drowning in a stream in Sevanagala.
He was part of a group of pilgrims returning from Kataragama.
