The Anuradhapura Crime Investigation Unit has arrested three individuals who attempted to sell a Buddha statue of historical importance, weighing 22kg.
The suspects attempted to sell the statue for Rs.6 million after obtaining it through excavations adjacent to the Nuwara Wewa in Anuradhapura.
Accordingly, officers of the Anuradhapura Crime Investigation Unit conducted a raid to apprehend the trio.
The 40, 43 and 45 year old suspects are residents of Mihinthalaya and Kahatagasdigiliya, and will be presented before the Anuradhapura Magistrates Court today.
