The Director of Communications of the Catholic Church of Sri Lanka, Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini says those seeking justice over the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks cannot be silenced through intimidation or pressure.
Speaking to media after recording a statement at the Criminal Investigation Department today, Rev. Fr. Gamini called for the recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry that probed the Easter attacks to be enforced.
Rev. Fr. Gamini said disciplinary and legal action has been proposed against the perpetrators in the recommendations.
However, he questioned why action is yet to be taken.
Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini added if there are no links to the attacks on the part of the government and the President the recommendations in the report should be implemented.
He claimed that under such circumstances suspicions arise over the delay in seeking justice, and stated it is their right to raise these questions.
Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini arrived at the CID this morning to record a statement for the third time.
The CID summoned Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini over a complaint lodged by the Head of the State Intelligence Service Major General Suresh Salley over claims he made in relation to the Easter attacks during a recent online forum.
Rev. Fr. Gamini said he was questioned over comments by individuals on social media following the online forum, adding that he cannot be held accountable for such comments or posts adding the public have the right to expression.
He stated that such questions posed by the CID are a mere waste of time.
