The Samagi Jana Balawegaya claims former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and affiliates, who instigated unrest in the country yesterday, must be brought to book.
The SJB said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa must also step down with immediate effect.
Speaking at a media briefing Parliamentarian Nalin Bandara Jayamaha said the SJB will not join any state governance system without the President stepping down.
MP Jayamaha said the President’s resignation is what is left at the moment, adding that they will not engage in any talks related to an interim, or caretaker government until this takes place.
He added they will not attend any talks in this regard either and reiterated that they are with the people.
MP Jayamaha claimed the group led by Mahinda Rajapaksa must be punished adding that resigning alone is insufficient.
He also called for an extensive investigation to be conducted into yesterday’s developments.
Parliamentarian JC Alawathuwala who was also present at the media briefing said disrepute has been brought on Sri Lanka through the actions of Mahinda Rajapaksa and his affiliates.
MP Alawathuwala said the incidents that unfolded outside the Temple Trees and at Galle Face yesterday are an embarrassment to the country.
He also condemned the actions of the Police and charged that they allowed violence to be unleashed and failed to enforce the law.
