Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith says the country needs a transformation, and cannot be developed on the current path.
The Cardinal noted spiritual principles must always come first. Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said it was the duty of all citizens, and not only politicians.
The Cardinal said all religious leaders rejected rising above others, by undermining them, for various reasons.
Speaking during the main Christmas service held at the Tewatta Church – Basilica of Our Lady in Ragama, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said many people are being trapped at present.
The Cardinal said when God took the human form to be amongst us, people moved away from God and towards slavery, and call it development. The Cardinal claimed people attempt to rise up by undermining others.
Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said Jesus preached that sin and selfishness traps an individual and makes them restless while Lord Buddha preached that greed will make an individual restless.
The Cardinal said there is no happiness without sacrifice.
