The government has expressed its intent to exchange views with the opposition to overcome the present economic crisis.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance have been summoned to attend next week’s Cabinet of Ministers meeting to discuss the current situation.
Co-Cabinet Spokesman Minister of Dullas Alahapperuma speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing today said all Ministers have also been invited for the meeting, adding that a similar dialogue will be created within the Parliamentary Group as well.
The Minister said the government also hopes to involve the opposition in formulating a programme to address the economic crisis.
Meanwhile, Minister Alahapperuma refuted claims that individuals will be arrested or that the law will be enforced if the President is criticized on social media.
The Minister responding to a question raised by a journalist said the Police Media Spokesman said criticism should be justified and that anyone can be criticised.
The Minister said criticism has not been prohibited or banned, adding that the President, nor the Cabinet of Ministers have made such a statement.
