Secretary of the GMOA Dr. Senal Fernando said they are aware the public is inconvenienced due to their trade union action.
Dr. Fernando said the strike is being launched in an attempt to retain the doctors in the country for a lengthy period and also station them to necessary locations in a scientific and technical manner.
He said they expected a swift intervention by the Ministry of Health when they announced that they will stage a strike.
Dr. Senal Fernando said however until the intervention of the President, the Health Ministry officials were unwilling to hold talks.
He said during talks the Health Ministry officials had agreed to their demands and agreed to address the technical issues raised by the GMOA.
Dr. Fernando said however officials had stated that a final decision on the matter can only be taken by the Health Minister.
Dr. Senal Fernando said therefore it is evident that there are political interferences even in technical matters within the health sector.
Assistant Secretary of the GMOA Dr. Naveen de Zoysa says the public will not have to endure hardships due to strikes, if the country had politicians who work for the best interest of the citizens.
Dr. Zoysa said although they announced that they will launch a strike on Friday, no officials or a politician came forward to hold talks with them.
He said politicians have forgotten why they have been appointed by the people.
Dr. Naveen de Zoysa said if politicians played their role correctly the country can move in the right path.
