The Samagi Jana Balawegaya charges that the country’s health industry is collapsing.
Speaking at a media briefing today, Parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake said due to the lack of essential medicines, surgeries, and emergency treatment have been suspended.
The MP said protests across the country will enhance further and citizens will take to the streets and engage in illegal activities in the weeks ahead to make ends meet for their families, adding it cannot be prevented.
MP Attanayake requested the new government to think anew and face the crisis ahead.
Meanwhile, MP Attanayake condemned a recent statement by the Prime Minister to foreign media discouraging tourists from visiting Sri Lanka.
The MP said the Premier’s discouraging words to tourists are concerning and questioned if the country can place trust in the tourism industry.
He noted that the tourism industry is one method of generating an income in addition to foreign remittances, export income, foreign loans and donations, and the overall stability of the country’s financial position.
MP Attanayake questioned how foreign exchange can be generated through the tourism industry when such statements are being made.
