Parliamentarian Thalatha Athukorala says she is displeased with the appointment of Venerable Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera as the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on ‘One Country, One Law’.
Speaking during the Committee Stage Debate in Parliament, MP Athukorala said it is concerning that Gnanasara Thera was appointed to such a post, as the Thera was released from prison on Presidential Pardon, after being sentenced on charges of contempt of court.
MP Athukorala said the Presidential Task Force for ‘One Country, One Law’ was established to obtain public opinions pertaining to the concept and the introduction of new legislations.
She claimed the establishment of the Task Force was a fateful occurrence as the previous administration was unconstitutionally sacked on the 26th of October, 2018.
The MP said the Gazette Notification on the Presidential Task Force was issued on the 26th of October.
The MP said the opposition is dissatisfied with the actions of the Chairman due to voice recordings circulating on social media recently with the latest being released yesterday.
