Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera says the Ceylon Electricity Board has informed of a technical breakdown in a 270MW power plant at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant.
The Minister said the CEB informed that repair work has commenced and the plant will be reconnected to the National Grid within five days.
Minister Wijesekera said power cuts will be managed without any further extensions by using thermal and hydropower plants to generate power.
