The Ceylon Teachers’ Union says the decision by the government to provide a Rs.5,000 allowance to teachers until their proposals are included in the 2022 Budget and to include recommendations submitted to the National Salaries Commission in 2018, to be added to the Budget are unacceptable.
The Secretary of the Union Joseph Stalin said the ongoing teacher-principal struggle will continue.
He said the government’s efforts will only result in an increment of between Rs.5,000-Rs.11,000.
Stalin said they will hold a joint discussion with all trade unions today to decide on future action.
He reiterated the unions will not accept any forced solutions adding they will provide the government more time to discuss the issue.
