Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena has promised trade unions that a Gazette Notification will be issued in the near future to make the teacher, principal, and teacher advisory service a closed service.
Speaking to media after a discussion, Chief Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union Mahinda Jayasinghe said the Minister gave this assurance during a discussion held at the Ministry of Education with teachers and principals trade unions this afternoon.
Jayasinghe said the government and the Education Ministry were expected to fulfil its first responsibility on the 20th of November, but to no avail, adding that Minister Gunawardena assured today that necessary steps will be taken.
He said various opposition and issues were raised, including 10-year transfers, and overdue transfers.
Jayasinghe stated that failure to address these matters will result in trade union action once again.
