A Task Force has been appointed to probe the effects of chemical fertilisers on the human body.
Issuing a statement, the Ministry of Health said subject Minister Keheliya Rambukwella informed the Director-General of Health Services to commence proceedings of the Task Force within the next week.
The decision was reached yesterday during talks between the Health Minister and the Minister of Agriculture including representatives from both ministries.
Minister Rambukwella said an independent body must be appointed to the Task Force consisting of individuals from related fields including the health sector, who will conduct a thorough analysis of the situation.
Speaking at the event Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said they require the support of the Health Ministry and the Ministry of Environment to support them in these efforts.
