President Gotabaya Rajapaksa says discussions are currently underway in Parliament to reach a national consensus on the way forward, with the appointment of a new Prime Minister and a new Cabinet of Ministers.
Speaking during the 27th International Conference on The Future of Asia in Tokyo, Japan today via video technology, President Rajapaksa said Sri Lanka urgently needs the support of allied countries to ensure that it meets the requirements of essential medicines, food supplies and fuel.
The Head of State said ongoing discussions on obtaining funding from Japan, a key development partner of Sri Lanka, will conclude soon.
The President expressed confidence that Japan will extend its support to Sri Lanka’s efforts for economic and social stability.
President Rajapaksa called on all allies present at the summit to look into possible assistance to Sri Lanka during this difficult time.
