The All Ceylon Traditional Coconut Oil Manufacturer’s Association says it hopes to hold discussions with the Minister of Trade regarding a new programme for consumers to purchase high quality coconut oil produced locally for the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
Speaking to NewsRadio, Convenor of the Association Buddhika de Silva said the public will be able to obtain coconut oil at concessionary rates if the government take steps to provide locally produced coconut oil to consumers through Sathosa outlets.
He noted the Association will hold discussions in this regard with the subject Minister this week to provide coconut oil at fair rates.
De Silva claimed the prices are warped at present as companies that refine imported coconut oil have concealed stocks and are now taking steps to sell their stocks while having massive profit margins.
He said therefore the Association is prepared to take steps to protect consumers.
